I connected my domain but the site won't load

A newly connected domain can take time to work. Here's how to tell if it's just settling in, or something to fix.

You've connected your domain but visiting it doesn't show your site yet. Most of the time this is normal and just needs a little patience — here's how to tell.

1. Give it time to connect

DNS changes spread across the internet gradually — this can take from a few minutes to a few hours (occasionally up to a day). During that window the domain may work in some places and not others. See domains and DNS explained.

2. Check the settings

  • Confirm you added the exact DNS records SiteDrop showed you, with no typos — see connecting a domain you own.
  • Make sure you saved the changes at your domain provider.

3. The padlock (secure) still loading

After the domain connects, the secure padlock (SSL) can take a short while more to activate. A brief “not secure” warning right after connecting usually clears itself.

WarningIf it's been more than 24 hours and your domain still won't load, don't keep changing settings — that can reset the clock.

Waited a day and it's still not working? Contact support with your domain name and we'll check it with you.
