GEO Score Checker: is your website visible in AI search?

More customers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google’s AI Overviews for a recommendation before they search. Enter your website and see, in a few seconds, whether those AI assistants can read it, understand it and quote it — with a score out of 100 and a list of fixes.

How the GEO score works

  1. Enter your website address. We read your page the way an AI crawler does — without running JavaScript.
  2. We also read your robots.txt (who you let in) and look for an llms.txt (a summary written for AI).
  3. Twelve checks are scored to 100: whether AI crawlers may read the site, whether there is real text to read, structured data about your business, titles, headings, answered questions, contact details and the technical basics.
  4. You get the score, what we found for each check, and a plain-English fix for anything that falls short.

How to raise your GEO score

Let the AI search crawlers in

OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT search), PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot need permission in robots.txt to read your site. Blocking the training crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot) is a separate choice and doesn't stop you appearing in answers.

Put your words in the HTML

Many site builders draw the page with JavaScript after it loads. Search engines cope; most AI crawlers don't, and see an empty page. Your services, area and prices should be in the page the server sends.

Say who you are in structured data

LocalBusiness JSON-LD tells machines your name, address, phone, opening hours and website without guessing. It is the single biggest lever for local AI answers.

Answer the questions customers ask

AI assistants build answers from direct answers. A short FAQ — prices, area covered, how to book, what to expect — gives them something to quote, with your name attached.

Frequently asked questions

What is GEO?

GEO, or generative engine optimisation, is making your website easy for AI assistants — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google's AI Overviews and Copilot — to read, understand and recommend. It overlaps with SEO, but leans harder on plain text, structured data and direct answers.

What is a good GEO score?

80 or more is strong: AI crawlers can read your site and find your key facts. 60 to 79 is fair, with a few fixes worth making. Below 60, AI assistants are likely to skip or misdescribe you.

Does a high score guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No. The score measures whether AI can read and understand your site — the part you control. Whether you are recommended also depends on reviews, other sites that mention you and how well you match the question.

Should I block GPTBot?

That is your call. GPTBot collects training data; blocking it does not stop ChatGPT search (OAI-SearchBot) from reading and citing your site. The checker shows each crawler separately so you can see exactly who you let in.

What is llms.txt?

A plain-text file at yourdomain.com/llms.txt that summarises your business and links your key pages, written for AI. It is new and optional, so it carries only a few points.

Is the checker free?

Yes. No sign-up, no card, and nothing is stored — we read your public pages, score them and show you the result.
